CABLE CAR HISTORY

PUERTO PLATA CABLE CAR

Did you know that the dome that we know as the base where today the statue of the Christ the Redeemer stands on the Isabel de Torres hill, was purposefully made as a fortress? it was indeed and anti-aircraft fortress, built by Trujillo to protect the city of possible foreign incursions.

The idea of the Puerto Plata Cable Car was conceived by Dr. Joaquín Balaguer, then President of the Republic, with the advice of the architect Cristian Martínez for the use of the landscape of Loma Isabel de Torres.

Interesting right? well nowadays the top of the mountain is a National Park : a botanical garden with loads of endemic tropical plants and flowers, 800 mts hgts over the sea level with the most stunning view of Puerto PLata from above. dont miss the chance to get the best shots of town and the iconic pictures with Christ the Redeemer statue.

Puerto PLata has it all!!
